About Brightstar.

Our History.

Where we have come from

The Brightstar team combines a long history of early stage technology spin-outs from corporate labs and institutions, together with many years’ experience as hands-on serial technology entrepreneurs. With strong skills in strategy, IP commercialisation, corporate finance, negotiations, structuring and legals, Brightstar brings much needed skills and experience to very early opportunities, helping them refine their propositions and develop better and more effective commercialisation strategies.

It’s a bit old-school really, but we get involved very early, get very hands-on with the innovators, build trust and work closely with them to overcome the many obstacles that early stage start-ups face getting out of the lab and into the market. As a result, we don’t have the bandwidth to work with many ventures and we remain very selective and focused on our target niches. The benefits of the model are faster to market, less risk, and more success stories – meaning that more of our incredible innovators get their life-changing ideas into the market.

Oh, and we love disruptive innovations. Did we mention that? We just love working on big, disruptive ideas!

Our Partners.

We have extensive experience with the corporate venturing model

Brightstar’s partners have extensive experience in the corporate venturing model in which teams and business units are managed out of larger organisations and set-up as independent operating ventures.

Chris Winter’s experience and success at British Telecom and Lucent, has led to considerable know-how in how to manage teams in organisations like the NHS and the larger healthcare companies. Similarly Tony Rabar’s experience at Qinetiq plc. Conversely, this has also meant that we have developed a keen appreciation of what larger companies are looking for as acquirors.
